Eddie Van Halen, John Petrucci, and Les Paul are considered to be some of the greatest guitar players in the world, yet do you think you could sound that good with just a cheap guitar? To try to answer that question, every guitarist has to know what the best guitar is for themselves.
Just about every guitar player has heard of Gibson, Fender, and Ibanez, but many wonder which is best. In a poll done by www.Top-tens.com, they established that Gibson was the best. “The best guitar tone ever comes from a Gibson Les Paul. The heavy wood makes the tone rich and full, and if you replace the pickups with some nice bare-knuckles, you have the best guitar ever. Period.” Some of the more famous guitarists to use Gibson guitars are Slash, Buckethead, and Frank Zappa.

The Telecaster, a guitar made by Fender, was another one that many people recommend to players looking for an overall useful guitar. It can be heard in many different styles of music, such as country, jazz, and even heavy metal. There is also the Fender Stratacaster, which is a guitar that has been an icon in guitars used by many rock groups throughtout  the years. One of the most famous guitars players, Jimi Hendrix, used the Stratacaster.

Senior Adam Wissman, who has been playing guitar for about eight years, said, “The Es-335 [is the best] and this is why: it has every setup. It is the most versatile guitar on the planet. It has the best clean sound, it can the best over-driven sound or blues sounds; you can use it for everything…” Now, this guitar can run upwards from about $2,000, but it is worth the price according to Wissman.

For novice guitar players who do not know if they want to play a hundred percent of the time but want a decent sound, there is still hope. Mr. B.J. Price, the choir accompanist here at PCHS who has been playing for around 18 years, says that the Ibanez RG series is one that he would suggest, and it is one that many of his students use. This guitar only costs about $300-$400.

Does the guitar make the guitarist? No, but you are not playing to your full potential without playing a decent guitar and one that works best for your usage and style.
