Music has changed much over time. It has evolved and adapted over the numerous years it has been around. In the 21st century, a new genre has arisen. This genre is widely-known as Dubstep. Some people do not really think of this music as a genre but more of a lifestyle. The people who claim this are dye-hard listeners who will go to every possible show or event about Dubstep that they can. This type of music is taking over today’s youth. Most of the American youth has at least heard a couple of song that are considered to be in this genre.
This type of music originated in London around the turn of the 21st century. The genre comes from various styles of music, such as grunge, dub, and drum and beat. There are two main categories in this particular genre. The first is the dark, melancholy, low-energy beats. The music that is associated with this category has very complex rhythms and bass lines. These songs are not just a bunch of heavy and crazy bass lines thrown together to make a song.
There is a lot more to this type of Dubstep. The songs have certain moods to them that help people feel what the artist felt when producing their song. Also, these songs are more of a cerebral type and are nearly impossible to dance to. According to www.npr.com, “Artists such as Mount Kimbie and James Blake may not attract the rabid hordes seen at a Rusko show, but they are just as widely known.”
The other main type of Dubstep is an aggressive, bass-heavy dance music. This style of Dubstep is bombarding college and high school campuses around the world. The artist Rusko leads this danceable Dubstep. He released his debut album “O.M.G.” this year. There are many other artists who fall into this style of Dubstep, such as Chrispy, Excision, xKore, and Tek-One. Senior Wesley Cockrell said, “Dubstep is true music . . .”
