March Madness is a tournament that crowns the champion for NCAA basketball, and it has been taking place over this past month. The first round consisted of 68 teams, which got narrowed down to the final teams, who then played each other for the championship title.
According to www.huffingtonpost.com, the Kentucky Wildcats have been the favored team. Experts said the Syracuse Orange followed by the North Carolina Tarheels were the next favored teams. “The experts at ESPN seem to agree with this assessment as every single one of them has tapped the Wildcats to reach the Final Four”.
Also, www.huffingtonpost.com points out, “Every single CBS Sports expert also sided with the favorite, picked Kentucky to go to at least the Final Four.” The Final Four is the round in the tournament that determines which two teams will play each other in the championship.
Adam Boeker, social studies teacher, has been filling out brackets for the tournament for nearly 20 years. Like most of the experts, Boeker believed that Kentucky would win the whole tournament. “I think Kentucky has NBA talent; they are long, quick, and incredibly talented. They are the best team in the NCAA torunament this year.”
Mario Labanca, senior, disagrees with the experts and with Mr. Boeker. Labanca has been filling out a bracket since around the seventh grade. He believed that the Michigan State Spartans would take home the trophy and be crowned NCAA champions. “I believe they will win because I have Big 10 conference [the conference Michigan State is from] pride, and not to mention, they have an awesome mascot.”
Wether you filled out your own bracket or have pride in your favorite conference, we all know that once the Madness is over, a champion will be crowned.
